4) SSI-D204 - Multi-Timbral Artist Series
We came up with this collection designed specifically for multi-timbral sequencing!
Each of the 64 tones included here stand on their own as complete sounds (none of them are “halves” of other patches). In addition to convincing acoustic and electric pianos, guitars, organs, basses and lead sounds, we’ve included special FX sounds, rap drum kits and even some “wave-vector” type sounds to round out this package.
NOTE: Our D-20/10/5 banks are optimized to use the dual-voice “Performance” mode on the instrument. This allows us to create complex, rich patches which just cannot be duplicated at the timbre level.
There are only 64 user programmable tones, and 128 programmable patches on the instrument, it seemed quite resonable to use all the resources available on the machine to achieve a good variety of sounds—even using some of the factory ROM tones in addition to the 64 user tones we programmed.
Many of the user tones were programmed to be attack transients or partials in complex patches which used other tones as sustained wave-form elements.
Despite this programming approach, we think these patches compare favorably to anything available, but admittedly, if you are using the multi-timbral mode exclusively, you will not be able to recieve the full benefit of our programming efforts.
All D-50 banks contain 64 new patches, 64 new performances and easy loading instructions.

U-20 “Artist Series” (U201)
Artist Series features three separate categories: Sound Patches, Sequencing Templates and Keyboard Patches. This makes for a sophisticated musical toolkit perfect for all your demanding pop, rock, R&B, jazz, blues (yes, blues) and soundtrack applications. Includes complete patch descriptions and performance notes for optimum use.Sounds include “Steel Strings,” “Sheehan,” “Ghosts,” “Stab,” “Stevie,” “Lukather,” “Funk It Up” and more.
PATCHES:
11) Bosendorfer: Acoustic Grand Piano, cross splits between different brightness levels for more realistic performances. C2 has no effect.
12) The Telephone: Bell-based pad. A breath attack is brought in with velocity. There is a descending high frequency component. C2 controls the frequency.
13) Orchestra: A multi-layered pad of orchestral string sounds. The component changes over time.
14) Foster: Based on a piano pad, there is a high-frequency descending component, with strings brought in with velocity. C2 drastically affects the decay of the low velocity component.
15) The Attic: Mellow and warm at low velocities. Has a sharp, bright attack when played hard. C2 changes the attack rate at all velocities.
16) Judgment Day: Perfect for film scoring, this sound has a variety of textures split not only by velocity, but by keyboard zones as well. High velocities bring in a descending element, the frequency of which is controlled with C2.
17) Go West: Using C2 can change this from a strong, bright keyboard sound to a tangy synth pad.
18) Heralds: A heavenly mixture of tines and choir. C2 controls the release time from percussive to infinite.
21) Steel Strings: A string pad with bite, but C2 will mellow it. By varying the attack time, this pad goes from a crisp pad to a mildly digital-sounding wash.
22) 12 String Guitar: A true 12-string patch. The natural range of a guitar begins at E2. Each note is doubled with an octave above from E2-B3, and with the same note detuned from C4 on up. C2 controls the decay rate from ringing to staccato.
23) Lukather: Ultimate power chord!
24) Gibson L-4: Six stereo steel strings. C2 changes the duration of the notes.
25) Landau: A clean electric guitar. Velocity cross splits between picked and muted sounds, with C2 affecting the picking style.
26) Jaco: The epitome of fretless bass. C2 varies the attack rate. Use the pitch wheel to slide between notes while varying the attack for incredible realism.
27) Funk It Up: A two handed bass patch. Use the “Down One Octave” keyboard patch to access the left hand. The range goes from D1 to C#3, then start over again at D3 for two-fingered realistic playing. C2 changes held notes to tiny mutes, slaps and pops, or anything in between. Each hand cross splits between fingered and slapped or poped, with different elements for each in each hand, making “real” bass parts infinitely simpler.
28) Sheehan: Similar to Funk It Up. This patch uses picked and slapped bass with a mellow chorus instead of a funky flange. Playing techniques are the same as Funk It up.
31) Maynard: Incredibly responsive trumpet. Cross splits between soft & muted, and bright & brassy, while at the top of the velocity range it adds a slight gliss up for those screaming high notes. C2 turns sustained notes into tiny chirps and squeals.
32) Clarence C: Similar to Maynard, but with a variety of sax samples. Great for rock & roll tenor sax parts. C2 automatically swells the volume.
33) Stab: A horn stab with a one octave slide. C2 controls the speed of the slide, from a blip to a day.
34) Tower of Power: A stereo horn section. Velocity changes the chord from a straight dominant to a minor 7 chord at moderate velocities, to a major 7 chord at the top of the range. C2 affects the attack rate for automatic swells.
35) Sanbourne: THE pop alto sax. Performance parameters are similar to Clarence C, but the sounds & processing are dripping wet for pop sax lines.
36) Toto Brass: A powerful mixture of real and synthetic horns with percussive transients added in. C2 alters the low frequency component.
37) Super J: One of the original synth horn sounds. C2 affects pitch bend at the attack.
38) ObxAHorns: Tough & gritty synth horn pad. C2 changes attack time.
41) Big Mini M: A tight Mini Moog bass. Use C2 to alter the attack rate.
42) PPG: From the tight & resonant to the huge & gritty. Use C2 for control.
43) Science: Snappy synth bass. C2 adds reverberant modulated element.
44) Axel F: A combination of synth bass and bright FM style synth. C2 removes the bass component by increasing the decay rate.
45) Runaway: Heavy analog synth pad. C2 removes the gritty element.
46) Anastack: A velocity cross-split between different Oberheim-type gritty analog synth pads. C2 slider adjusts the decay rate of the sawtooth waveforms and leaves smoother, rounder synth and string cross-splits.
47) Van Halen XA: Sawtooth OBXa type of synth pad. C2 adjusts the attack time.
48) Super D-50: C2 adjusts this from a heavy D-50ish pad to a tight, percussive sound. Low velocities have a heavy emphasis on steel guitar and Fairlight breath samples.
51) Kryptonians: A large M1 type of pad. C2 alters the frequency of the descending component.
52) Ghosts: A complex sound with tremendous pitch crossing elements. C2 affects the attack rise time.
53) Magic Piano: A fosterish piano pad. Higher velocities bring in a bell sound while C2 removes the strings from lower velocities.
54) Fissures: A deep soundtrack-oriented sound. C2 turns this into a tight attack transient with a fairly abrupt cut-off.
55) Asylum: Reminiscent of the huge M1 type of breathy pad sounds. There is a slowly descending high frequency element in the background. C2 controls the decay rate of the steel string element at low velocities.
56) Brass Fits: A huge synth and real brass section. C2 adjusts the attack time for an automatic swell.
57) Choir Bells: Huge church bells and synth breath make for a dramatic pad, while adjusting C2 turns it into a percussive attack transient.
58) Old West: A sound familiar to everyone who’s ever watched an old western. Adjusting C2 eliminates the high frequency component at the upper end of the velocity curve.
61) Choir Heaven: Choir, synth breath, bell and tine sounds come together to create a huge wash of sound. C2 adjusts the relative levels of the components.
62) Ice: A percussive sound with criss-crossing delays. C2 turns the main element into a percussive attack transient while retiaing the delays. A must for film scorers.
63) Toto: L.A. Keyboard pad. C2 decreases the sustain.
64) Soundtracks: The name says it all. C2 changes attack time.
65) Stevie: A synth-clav/synth bass-sound. Gritty, tight and big. C2 increases the rate of decay.
66) L.A.: Level 42-type of piano pad. C2 increases the low component.
67) Foster Angels: Synth sound of the 90s. C2 adjusts the frequency of the descending component.
68) Ocean: Play!
